Züri Velo Cup
2'000+
hobby riders
As a companion event to the UCI World Championships in Zurich, the Züri Velo Cup attracted more than two thousand hobby riders and made the pros' course an experience for everyone.

The Züri Velo Cup is an innovative road-bike format around Zurich – a challenge for cycling enthusiasts in which selected sections (segments) of the legendary "Züri Metzgete" and the 2025 UCI Road World Championships are ridden and collected.
Who is it for?
- Hobby cyclists who want to collect segments around Zurich and discover new routes
- Athletes who want to ride flexibly — without a fixed race start and without timing
- Fans and communities who value excitement, comparison and motivation
How does it work?
- Participants register digitally and connect their tracking accounts (e.g. Strava, Garmin) with LaceUp
- They ride defined route sections (segments) whenever they want
- LaceUp automatically extracts the completed sections from the GPS data
- There are open-ride events where everyone can ride together – with refreshment points along the way
Highlights & advantages
- A flexible format with no mass start or big race setup
- Digital integration: automatic tracking, but without segment times
- A community component: motivation through comparison and open events
- Visibility for course & region: showcasing segments and cycling routes
- Low barriers, big incentive: partial routes and individual segments count too
Current figures & successes
- Over 1,600 registrations in the first edition
- Over 1,000 active participants who collected thousands of segments
- Due to its popularity, the cup was extended and regional open-ride formats added
